    NAIL CONDITIONS

    Long Nails

If you have trouble reaching your nails, don't have the best nail clippers at home, worried about catching a fungal infection or have bad eye sight that makes trimming nails dangerous.

What we can do for you?

Using specialized tools a podiatrist can trim and file nails so they are worthy of being displayed. Always finished off with nail oil and moisturiser for your feet.

    Onychauxis

Small areas of hard skin that form as a result of pressure.

What we can do for you?

A podiatrist will enucleate (scoop out) a corn. This does not hurt because the corn is an area of hard and thickened skin.

    Onychogryphosis

Warts and verruca are viruses that infiltrate healthy tissue. Often with a cauliflower like appearance on the surface, verruca can be up to 1cm deep in the foot.

What we can do for you?

Using laser treatment or keratolytics such as; salicylic acid and silver nitrate, the verruca will be treated.

    Pigmentation

Leukonychia - white nails. This can be as a result of trauma (nail biting, knocks and bangs, manicuring or tight footwear). Alternatively a fungal infection can present as a white 'crust' on the surface of the nail.

Melanonychia - a darkened streak of nail. Due to a change in the pigmentation (similar to freckle or mole) at the matrix of the nail, a dark line can appear in a nail plate.

What we can do for you?

A podiatrist will observe and assess a nail for evidence of discolouration and can determine whether further referral to a dermatologist is necessary. Removing superficial damage that is caused by trauma can often greatly improve the appearance of the nail. A podiatrist can also assess whether a fungal infection is present and advise of the appropriate course of treatment.

    Subungual Haematoma

Larger areas of superficial hard skin, with or without cracks (fissures) can be very painful when walking or in footwear. Callus normally forms at areas of high pressure and friction .

What we can do for you?

Debridement (shaving back) and sanding to remove the hard superficial skin and fissures. This reveals healthy and soft skin underneath.

    Psoriatic Nails

Small areas of hard skin that form as a result of pressure.

What we can do for you?

A podiatrist will enucleate (scoop out) a corn. This does not hurt because the corn is an area of hard and thickened skin.
